This was my second recording in one day, the first being the art's "the art that gives us strength to face the tyrant" album. While different stylistically, both get to the root of things. Improvisational music is not a household concept, and is little understood, even by dedicated practitioners. But it's something I hold dearly, communicating on a telepathic level with another person who just like me is trying to figure out what it is to be human. I'm thrilled to have worked here with Kathleen Duffield. She is an incredible musician with a strong swing plus the subtlety to balance her tympany, an archaic word meaning bombast, all the more fitting given Kathleen's ability to make her toms sound like timpani. Her orchestral sense of the drumkit lets me roam far and wide with the end result sounding full and full of surprises. Industrial R&B, perhaps. Nine Inch Badu. My friend Jason Thrasher asked me to make a punk record as antidote for the madness going on in the world. Of course, engineer Jesse Mangum was on board and captured it radiantly. No metronome, no edits, no censorship, all heart. Here's our punk. Thanks for listening.

100% of our proceeds from this album will go to Athens Immigrant Rights Coalition (www.athensimmigrantrights.org) to provide relief for families facing deportation and help for primary needs such as food, housing, or power bills. AIRC also conducts informational forums to promote a better understanding of the migrant community in Athens.

A little while back, my wife excitedly told me about someone she had met through friends. He's a shaman! she proclaimed. His name is Beto, and he's from Mexico. And he is a shaman, even if he wouldn't call himself by this name. He works tirelessly as an advocate for making people's lives better, whether they are from vulnerable groups or they are decision-makers who would benefit from more compassion, from recognition of our shared commonality. This inner light is reflected in his music. I am so glad this session happened; our improvisations unfolded with the magic I love so deeply. Please enjoy, and thanks for listening.

House concerts are the best. It's such an intimate setting, really optimal for performers and audience alike. Food and fun, and home at a reasonable hour. My Thunder O(h)m! fellows pull out all the stops here in a somewhat amped up version of the ensemble. It's an honor to play with them. Please enjoy. Thanks for listening.
